Acne Skin Care – Fact And Fiction

In the not so distant past many people believed acne to be the result of poor hygienic habits. This is actually not the case. Acne is usually the result of an imbalance in hormones. This is the reason many teenagers have such an acne problem. The teen years see many hormonal changes in both boys and girls. Good acne skin care requires gentle washing of the skin using a mild cleanser.

Many people feel that acne is caused by eating the wrong type foods. Chocolate is usually blamed, as well as french fries. The truth is food has never been proven to have any affect on acne. We all know that we should eat a healthy diet, and this means everything in moderation, but there is no reason to avoid a food you love because you have acne.

Some think that acne only affects the face. This is not true. Acne can appear anywhere on the body but it tends to appear in areas of the body where the most oil is found. For many people, the entire body needs gentle acne skin care with products that are not harsh. Acne is usually not a dangerous disorder but it can cause scarring which will last a lifetime. For mild to moderate cases of acne you can usually keep it under control with gentle cleansers and lotions which are made to be used on acne. If the acne is really bad and you can’t control it, you might need to see a dermatologist. They can usually provide stronger treatment which will aid in the reduction of acne without permanent scarring.

Products Recommended For Acne Skin Care

A mild cleanser will help keep down the oils which clog pores and will also prevent further skin irritation. There are several reputable cleansers out there that are recommended for acne. Many people who have acne feel they should use alcohol to dry out their skin but this too will cause further irritation. Instead, look for an astringent which is mild and recommended for acne.

Even though acne is usually seen on oily skin, effective acne skin care also calls for a moisturizer to be applied after cleansing. You can find moisturizers which are water based that will not increase the oil in your skin. Moisturizers provide a barrier between your skin and the elements. Blackheads are the result of oil and dirt getting down in the pores of the skin and using a moisturizer will help prevent the dirt from getting to the pores.

When shopping for products for acne skin care it is best to stay with natural products that do not contain harsh chemicals and dyes. Natural products will help to aid in the healing process without causing further irritation. When you are experiencing an acne break out your skin is more delicate and should be treated gently to avoid damage. If you like, you can apply a light coat of makeup to help conceal the break out. Water based makeup will not clog pores and will make you feel better about the way you look.

Wrinkle Free in 2 Steps:

In the News:

Barbara Walters News Special: On 60 Minutes, Dr. Christoph Wesphal explains that Resveratrol is a naturally occurring component of red wine that can apparently extend human life.

WebMD: Resveratrol may prolong life and fight age-related diseases.

Resveratrol is one of a group of antioxidant compounds called polyphenols found in red wine that has been reported to have anti-inflammatory as well as anticancer properties.

Resveratrol may counter type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, a new study shows.

CNN: At high doses, resveratrol appears to prolong life spans and improve health in mice. Human trials are under way.

This research, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, was published in the journals Nature and Call in November, and bottles of resveratrol have been flying off the shelves since. Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the Department of Internal Medicine's Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic says "This may be the best thing since sliced bread for human beings, but we just don't know yet."

Fox News: For years, red wine has been linked to numerous health benefits. But the new study, published online in the journal Nature on Thursday, shows that mammals given ultrahigh doses of resveratrol can get the good effects of cutting calories without actually doing it.

"If we're right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry," Sinclair said. "It's the Holy Grail of aging research."
