Keratosis Pilaris Need Not Be an Affliction You Need to Put Up With!

Keratosis pilaris (or KP) is a very common skin condition. It has symptoms on the skin of rough and red bumps. Many times they are referred to as red goose bumps and chicken skin. This is a skin condition that affects around 40% of the population. It is an irritating condition that you’ll want to scratch (possibly causing scabs) that you’ll find on the back of the tops of arms, the tops of the thighs, and the buttocks. The majority of cases will affect adolescents since most individuals suffer it when they are children, and it is more common in women than men.

This is a skin condition produced when the body produces excess keratin (the natural protein in the skin) that then surrounds and traps the hair follicles causing hard plugs to form which are the red dots that you see.

Let us note that this is not a life threatening condition. But you’ll still want to get rid of it! And rest assured there are various treatment methods with which you can do just that. You can be happy again knowing you did what you could to clear up your skin’s rough texture.

First you will want to exfoliate your skin well but not with a prescription quality scrub that will most often contain chemical ingredients that are very harsh on the sensitive skin the keratosis pilaris has affected nor with any type of exfoliation product containing benzoyl peroxide which further dries out your skin.

Retinoid is a way people label Vitamin A in many instances. Regarding recommended treatments, Retinoid is the way to go when dealing with KP. It serves to naturally accelerate the rate of sick and dead skin cells being eliminated from your body’s system. And because of the fact that it is blocked skin pores that are the stem reason so many various KP symptoms arrive on your skin in the first place, this is very beneficial.

Tip #2: There is a strong need when you are suffering the symptoms of KP that an effective moisturizer be used. Of course it is very important to note that moisturizers not made with only natural ingredients are not suited for sensitive skin. Their harsh chemicals are too burdensome. Stick only with natural ingredients. What the recommended moisturizing ingredients concerning keratosis pilaris are will be that of Vitamin E oil. This can be included into a few tablespoons that you can then insert in a tub full of warm water when you are ready to take a bath.

You should look into microdermabrasion as another great treatment that will eliminate your KP symptoms. What is microdermabrasion you may ask? In it you are utilizing on the surface of your skin a wire brush to suction out even the hardest keritinized plugs. The end result should be a more smooth and more toned skin complexion.

In the News:

Barbara Walters News Special: On 60 Minutes, Dr. Christoph Wesphal explains that Resveratrol is a naturally occurring component of red wine that can apparently extend human life.

WebMD: Resveratrol may prolong life and fight age-related diseases.

Resveratrol is one of a group of antioxidant compounds called polyphenols found in red wine that has been reported to have anti-inflammatory as well as anticancer properties.

Resveratrol may counter type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, a new study shows.

CNN: At high doses, resveratrol appears to prolong life spans and improve health in mice. Human trials are under way.

This research, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, was published in the journals Nature and Call in November, and bottles of resveratrol have been flying off the shelves since. Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the Department of Internal Medicine's Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic says "This may be the best thing since sliced bread for human beings, but we just don't know yet."

Fox News: For years, red wine has been linked to numerous health benefits. But the new study, published online in the journal Nature on Thursday, shows that mammals given ultrahigh doses of resveratrol can get the good effects of cutting calories without actually doing it.

"If we're right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry," Sinclair said. "It's the Holy Grail of aging research."
